Academic Roadmap to Becoming a Doctor After School

Is your child in their middle to high school years and wants to become the noblest star of the nation, a doctor? But don’t know how and why? Well, you’ve landed at the right guide. At Resonance Schools, we always say, “The earlier you plan, the better.” When your basics are strong, your journey becomes smoother.

Step 1 - Build An Early Foundation

This is the most important stage. If the child is in middle school, around 6th or 7th class, they don’t need coaching stress now. They need clarity. Focus on understanding science properly, not just memorising. Read science books, learn the basics of cells, the human body, and ecosystems, understand forces, motion, and basic electricity and build math skills like algebra, ratios, and percentages.

These basics are very important for them later for NEET. Spend just 30 to 60 minutes each day on focused self-study beyond your schoolwork.

Step 2 - Strengthen The Concepts

Once they enter the 8th class, their preparation should get more serious. In these classes, science goes deeper. Let them focus strongly on Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Keep improving their Mathematics to understand Physics better. Let them start solving application-based questions.

At many schools like Resonance School, students are gradually introduced to competitive exam patterns through Olympiad and foundation modules. Take these. This helps build exam temperament early, without pressure. Remember, these years are not about fear. They are about strengthening a child’s basics.

Step - 3After 10th Choose the Right Subjects

Now comes an important decision. The subjects required for a doctor in 11th and 12th are: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology). They must take the Science stream with PCB. This is a compulsory step in the medical career path after 10th.

Step - 4- 11th & 12th Start Serious NEET Preparation

All of their preparation is leading up to one big day – one big exam: NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). The key steps for NEET preparation are: NCERT books for Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, practice MCQs every day, take mock tests regularly, improve your speed and accuracy and have time management.

To become eligible for NEET, students need to have at least 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (for the General Category). At Resonance Schools, we start preparing students for NEET right from middle school through our Competitive Exam Foundation course. So, when they reach the 11th and 12th standards, they are already prepared and confident!

Step 5: Attend Counselling

When the child is in middle or high school, they will feel overstimulated and confused. Don’t panic. If they have a mentorship like Resonance school, where we provide career and education guidance, then let them attend that often. This will help the child to understand their goals and also how to schedule their lives.

Step - 6- Ask the question why?

Understand the reasons as to why the student wants to pursue doctor as a career. Becoming a doctor is not only about clearing the NEET. There will be days when a student feels tired, confused and doubt themself. As a parent, don’t pressure them to take a doctor as a career. If their why is strong, the how becomes easy.

If a student joins the Early Foundation Program at Resonance, they shouldn’t stress about NEET from now, and miss enjoying their school life. Because, along with normal studies and fun, we make their basics strong, make them curious, help them ask questions and build discipline. Because a good doctor is not only intelligent, but also compassionate and responsible.
