Conceptual Learning in Schools: Why Clarity Matters More Than Rote Learning
Learning follows a butterfly effect. Steadily learning and becoming an excellence in it requires more than rote learning. In today's dynamic world, the traditional rote learning to score marks in exams is not a feasible approach anymore. At Resonance schools, we aim to provide future-ready education to our students, which requires a shift from 'rote learning' to 'conceptual learning' culture, and this change sets the foundation for developing responsible citizens.
Excellence through Concept Clarity
At Resonance, we follow the ResoMantra "Success ke peeche mat bhaago, excellence ka peecha karo", which is based on achieving excellence through a carefully laid out 'Equation for Excellence'. We feel excellence is a conscious effort and has to be achieved by working on the right mindset.
We believe that conceptual learning plays a critical role in this 'Equation for Excellence'. Students need to shift from 'learning' to 'understanding'. It is only when the 'why' of any particular concept has been understood by students, that they can move from being just someone who 'learns' to someone who 'knows'.
The new learning system:
The new learning system is embedded within the following three pillars that have been specially designed for different ages to take the learning process from basics to higher-order skills and analytical thinking. This will assist them in learning the "why and how" of their chosen course of study, beginning with a solid conceptual foundation
Frameworks of conceptual learning at Resonance:
Pre-Primary (ROOT Framework): At Resonance, we focus on motivating the young minds to learn and explore the world around them, so that they can confidently develop their reading, writing, and counting skills during their formative years.
Primary (BRIDGE Framework): At this stage, the focus of Resonance is on building a strong conceptual foundation with its BRIDGE framework, so that the young learners can comfortably gain the foundational skills that will help them excel in school. The primary learning approach encourages inquiry and reasoning with an exploratory approach and learning by doing.
Secondary (8 Foundations Framework): From grade VI to X, our 8 Foundation Framework focus on sharpening the mind with clarity, and lays the deeper conceptual foundation for their critical thinking ability, and building the competence to think, learn, unlearn and relearn. Our specially designed "Core Foundation" for grades VI to X is aimed at "Sharpening the Mind with Clarity".
Why is it important?
Conceptual learning encourages to focus on conceptual understanding of the subject matter rather than just being concerned about completing the syllabus. By enabling a "thinking classroom" and promoting simplicity, the framework helps to facilitate better clarity to their students. It encourages students to adopt a scientific temper and inquiry, so that they can develop a "thinker's mindset".
This unique approach to learning emphasizes on understanding the basic fundamentals to such an extent that a student will be able to teach the subject-matter to someone else. This will create the much-needed confidence in students, which is essential for them to tackle the challenges of examinations and develop their problem-solving skills.
A Gateway to Top Institutions
A thorough conceptual understanding provides the much-needed edge to tackle the problem-solving and analytical aspects of competitive examinations. Our approach to learning lays a strong foundation for students to pursue their studies in premier institutes and excel in national and international level competitions such as Olympiads, IIT-JEE, NEET, etc.
